State-owned Transnet Freight Rail says it regards the first stage of its pilot slot-sales process as successful, despite having only received two bids from the private sector to operate its freight network. TFR has conditionally awarded slots on the Kroonstad-to-East London route on the Cape Corridor to rail services company Traxtion Sheltam. It said the company completed the first stage of the evaluation process and proved that it would be able to operate on its rail network.
“The reason why we will still say we regard it as a success, goes back to what was our objective. And our objective was to say how do we actually try and test the concept ahead of the implementation of the rail white paper,” she noted on Tuesday.
