Cape Town - Traffic congestion in Cape Town costs the city R2.8 billion a year as the failure of people, goods and services to reach their destination in time leads to lower job growth, loss of productivity and decreased attractiveness for investment.

“A well-functioning public transport system is fundamental to addressing worsening congestion and providing the residents of Cape Town equitable access to economic opportunities,” said the report. “However, if public transport improvements are not implemented, the city faces the risk of both worsening congestion and further constraints on the ability of lower-income groups to access economic opportunities.”

President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Geoff Jacobs, said: “There is no doubt that traffic congestion during morning and afternoon rush hours is appalling. Commuter times are often more than an hour by motor car, even to and from nearby suburbs.

TheCapeArgus Said it a million times before, get a Gautrain type service in WC. Will take 1000’s of car commuters off the congested roads. Metro rail is a disaster. Run it on elevated tracks in high risk areas to prevent cable theft.

TheCapeArgus Funny that the incompetents at CoCT are too weak to admit their failure. Since 2010 nothing has changed. They just publish stupid excuses about this and that. If you can't do your job, go home and let other people do the job !

TheCapeArgus Not true, Private sector does not operate as efficiently as it should knowing the macro environmental conditions and then crowds public roads meant for all, furthermore they do not offer solutions or development.

TheCapeArgus the question is, what are the manager at CoCT and WC doing to better the situation ? NOTHING - they are as useless as the incompetents at CapeTownTrains These people are responsible for the bad situation of the commuters. Why are they getting paid ?
