Tjips makes chips that slap

Word around town is that there’s a new chip in town. And it’s not just any old chip, it’s a chip that slaps. Once I heard this new fast food spot was in my hood of Kensington, I had to try it out.

I slide up on the homie Benjamin behind the counter. He talks me through the selections. You can add toppings such as jalapeños, guac, sour cream and salsa or order the Il Continentale – parmesan chips with black truffle mayo . Tjips has been open since February. You can get full-on meals here too, such as The Joburger, which is a burger patty layered on top of some slap chips, doused with cheese sauce, jalapeños, tomato and lettuce .

I enjoyed the thick cut of the chips – I didn’t have the largest portion on the menu as I’m not one for breakfast, but this left me feeling quite full and it went down well, even that early in the morning. On the downside, the spices Tjips uses are fairly run of the mill.
