SA boxing legend Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela has encouraged two local boxing sensations, Kevin “Two Guns” Lerena and Ayanda “Fire Blows” Ndulani, to continue working hard ahead of their World Boxing Council (WBC) world title elimination bouts

Lerena, a former International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight world champion, is scheduled to cross swords with Ivory Coast-born Belgian Ryad Merhy at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, on May 13, while his countryman faces Mexican Luis Castillo in his own back yard on a date yet to be announced. With their elimination bouts on the cards, the South African pair is one fight away from the much sought-after WBC world title shot.

Thobela, a former WBC super-middleweight title holder, strongly believes that, if in their best shape, the local lads can grab the titles. The erstwhile multiple world champion has applauded the management of these boxers for doing a sterling job of guiding them to the highest level in the international boxing world.

The boxer-turned-businessperson is one of only two South African fighters who lifted the prestigious WBC belt. The other was Thulani “Sugar Boy” Malinga.
