The ‘coalition of the wounded’, comprising parties who have done badly in this year’s elections, has grown from 30 to 35.
Thirty-five of the 48 parties who contested the 2019 elections walked out of a briefing held by the Independent Electoral Commission around noon following the audit on votes after accusations that some people were able to vote more than once. The group of disgruntled parties has grown, as it was reported on Thursday that there were 30. The Congress of the People has now joined the ranks of those parties unhappy with the electoral process this year, and who may possibly mount a legal challenge.
The parties have called for an independent audit following their refusal to accept the results of the IEC audit. They have also called for the results not to be declared until the matter has been resolved to their satisfaction. 35/48 political parties have gathered at the IEC saying they want an independent audit of results. They say are not disgruntled and they just want to raise questions around the results.
