Many mistakenly think the armed struggle brought it to its knees, but it was ordinary people’s efforts that resulted in its demise, writes Imraan Buccus.

Many mistakenly think the armed struggle brought it to its knees, but it was ordinary people’s efforts that resulted in its demiseOn January 9 1973 workers at Coronation Brick and Tile in Durban went on strike. The protest was self-organised as they had no union.

Oh please! The ANC deployed four pillars of the struggle to bring down apartheid. 1. Mass mobilization and rendering apartheid ungovernable, 2. International isolation of apartheid, 3. Economic sanctions, and 4. Armed struggle led by Umkhonto we Sizwe. Your narrative is fake.

Apartheid has been defeated? On paper yes but in reality......

Now you want to write revisionist history? Just to undermine the ANC? By now, you must all understand that MYANC is a hegemonic titan that has stood the test of time. In furtherance of black people, undeterred, no matter what the media may write.

As long as you we not there it's easy to speculate, but the townships felt it more than anyone did and it's best to get a true story from them, your so called heroes ran away when people died in front of our eyes with no media to cover it, this are wounds that will never heal

It was sanctions which did it.

I think it was more the sanctions. The rabble rousers were getting absolutely nowhere.

No truer words have been spoken. It was the resistance of the black, coloured, indians and whites that did the work. It will be us again that bring down this corrupt incompetent ANC.

The word 'mistakenly' should be withdrawn. These elements of resistance were not in opposition. They were complimentary and United. Other factors both internal and external played a part . The body of resistance was a whole. Imraan is divisive in nitpicking which part was supreme
