Actresses Gail Mabalane and Ama Qamata’s strong on-screen chemistry is evident on Netflix’s second African Original series, Blood & Water. Mabalane stars as Thandeka Khumalo, the mother of troubled teen, Puleng , who investigates the cold case of her older sister who was abducted at birth.

From that day, Gail took me under her wing. She is like a big sister to me. I remember when I wasn’t feeling well on set, she took care of me, she spoilt me and made sure I was fineQamata still feels like someone has just woken her up from a dream: “I am still trying to calm down after the reception. It has been overwhelming. I treat every role I play as a big break and I always give it my best.

The 35-year-old Mabalane shares the sentiment, saying Qamata is like her younger sister: “From the first moment we met, we had an organic relationship and we were comfortable around each other.”Directed by award-winning writer Nosipho Dumisa, the gripping six-part drama series follows the story of a 16-year-old ambitious and courageous Puleng, who is searching for her long-lost older sister, who turns out to be Fikile Bhele, played by newbie Khosi Ngema.

The series was filmed last winter in the up-market Camps Bay in Cape Town, and the Eastern-Cape born Qamata spent three months away from her family while shooting. Qamata says her highlight on the show was shooting with rapper Nasty C: “I am a huge fan of his. I dig his music.”“It was magical and fun portraying Thandeka. Although it was not the first time I played a mother, this time it was different because I am now a mother. Giving birth really changes you as a woman,” she says.

Review: Dancing awkwardly around Michael Jordan’s legacy - The Mail & GuardianThe Last Dance, a Netflix documentary series about basketball player Michael Jordan, is a romantic reframing of his halcyon period that fails to engage with the politics of race in America. abbe! 2/2 It's like the author was expecting Muhammad Ali but instead, low and behold, got MJ 🙄 and has to share his disappointment with us I don't get the point of this article. It's a biography about MJ as it was intended to be. Its not about race relations and the NBA. Possibly a separate series all together. This is scraping the bottom of the barrel. 'Not everyone with an opinion has something to say.' 1/2
