In the wake of its UK operation filing for bankruptcy, The Body Shop has assured its South African customers and employees that local operations will remain unaffected. This comes as a relief to many, as the ethical cosmetics brand has been a favourite among South Africans since the Clicks Group introduced it to the country in 2001.
The Clicks Group renewed its long-term franchise agreement last year, ensuring the continuity of The Body Shop's presence in South Africa despite the turmoil in the UK. Per a report from AFP, the nearly 50-year-old cosmetics company renowned for its ethical hair and skin products entered bankruptcy in 2023, placing thousands of jobs at risk. The retailer has appointed experts from FRP Advisory to oversee administration, a UK process where financial experts are drafted to try and save parts of a firm. South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
