Most schools have been reported to have no or insufficient personal protective gear.

Sadtu General-Secretary Mugwena Maluleke says unions and governing body associations met with Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga.“When the school is ready for the workers in terms of the PPEs [Personal Protective Equipment], in terms of social distancing. The workers will go in and get training and that has been happening since the 25th. Where the school is ready, then the worker go in but where the school is not ready, workers will not go be going in,” he said.

“When it comes to the learners, our position is we don't want a staggered approach. We need to make sure the system is perfect. Correctly so. It really baffles me that I have PPEs by their thousands (N95s and 3 layer surgical masks) and schools can't buy from us because of the centralised government approach. Ooh well!

Like it or not, my daughter goes back to school on Monday. I think she is not using her potential at home but I don't really want her to go to school. Even she is a little scared There's more risk at home from parents than at schools. It's a fact. Private companies should create world class online content and find ways to provide affordable internet to all kids. Then we don’t need these school buildings and low standards.
