Bongani Mabena, 44, who is serving a life sentence at the jail commonly known as"Sun City", says it is important for prisoners to have a say in who will lead the country.
“Prison is a community in itself. Inmates should be given a right to vote because after serving their time they will be reintegrated into the community,” he said. “I appreciate if we give the government a chance, because there are things that cannot be done overnight.” Meanwhile, at Westville Prison in Durban, voting had to be delayed after electoral officials failed to arrive. According to IEC figures, about 813 inmates are registered to vote across the prison’s five sections.
Since when have prisoners rights Oh I forgot, in SA they do!!
They should not have that right
Really!?
They took that right when they violated others rights, why give them a right to vote?
Absolutely not they not part of society
No ways they are criminals and have no rights
Couple of politicians should have been voting from here by now....
Don’t understand the logic behind allowing convicted criminals the privilege of voting.
Why ?
How much truth is there that Henry van Breda will not be allowed to vote? Fact or fiction?
I just don't get! You are incarcerated because you disobeyed the laws of our country and your a burden to society and a cost to the tax payer. You should not have the right to vote. I don't get it.
So weird that they can vote for the government but because of their criminal records they can not work for that very gov.
A lot would disagree.
