JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen insists violent criminals are being let loose at theZuma reported to the Estcourt Prison in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, only to be released two hours later.Government claimed he was part of a special remittance programme which would see over 9,000 low-risk inmates released to ease overcrowding in prisons.
In 2019, some 'Fees must Fall' activists found their way back home from prison through special remissions. Steenhuisen raised concern over the rate of repeat offenders in the country while addressing the DA’s Gauteng provincial congress. He accused Ramaphosa of opting to break the rule of law and subverting justice in order to protect the ANC.Zuma's short return to prison follows a Constitutional Court ruling that his release on medical parole in 2021 was unlawful.
