, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, is gearing up to implement special measures aimed at quelling tensions between the Witwatersrand African Taxi Association and the Nancefield Dube West Taxi Association .
In a bid to address the escalating crisis, MEC Diale-Tlabela convened a meeting on Thursday at Uncle Toms Hall in Orlando West, Soweto, where she expressed her intention to invoke section 91 of the National Land Transport Act. “Our approach to resolving this crisis has always prioritised the safety and well-being of the affected communities,” stated Diale-Tlabela.
One such intervention involves amending the contested routes and operating licences to prevent duplication and streamline operations. This move marks the first significant amendment to these routes since their inception.Diale-Tlabela underscored the government’s commitment to supporting the taxi, acknowledging its vital role in the province’s economy as the primary mode of transportation for many residents.
