The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is investigating a video of a police car allegedly driving over a cat in the Cape Town suburb of Woodstock and, after stopping briefly, driving off to leave the cat writhing in pain. | itchybyte

Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse said the organisation intended lodging a complaint with the police over the matter. In the footage, time stamped 8 August, a cat can be seen. The vehicle passes, and then the cat is seen writhing on the road. It was posted on Facebook and shared to a community group saying:"Police van just drove over a cat in church street [sic]. The cat still looks a bit young. Unfortunately it died. If anyone might be looking for their cat, I took it to the Woodstock police station where everyone seemed to have lost their tongues..."
