Spain joins South Africa's Gaza case at UN top court

Spain is the first European country to take the step to join South Africa's case at the International Court of Justice to end the war in Gaza.On 24 May the ICJ ordered Israel to"immediately" stop its military offensive in Rafah.

His statement came a week after Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, recognised the state of Palestine, sparking fury from Israel. Several Latin American nations, including Colombia and Mexico, have already joined South Africa's proceedings before the court. On 24 May, the court ordered Israel to"immediately" halt its military offensive in the city of Rafah and keep open the key border crossing there for"unhindered" humanitarian aid.It also called for the"unconditional" release of hostages taken by Palestinian militant group Hamas during its 7 October assault that sparked the war.
