JOHANNESBURG - A South African woman trapped in war-torn Sudan has told Eyewitness News many locals in Khartoum have fled the capital and foreigners are using a ceasefire to exit the country.
This followed paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces making a plea to Sudanese armed forces to lay down their arms for Eid-al-Fitr.South African national Birgitte Davy, who has been working as a human resources specialist in Khartoum, said embassies have been evacuating their citizens and some people are fleeing to other cities in Sudan."There are still hot spots where fighting is fierce, but people are getting through. On the roads we're getting lots of reports of robberies.
"Our South African embassy has been in touch with us, but their repeated call for us has been to be calm and to wait and to sit tight."
