President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans to rally behind the government’s drive for National Health Insurance , saying it is “unfair and unjust” that access to decent healthcare still hinges on a person’s ability to pay.
“It is one of the greatest travesties of our time that access to decent and quality healthcare services is determined by one’s ability to pay,” the president said in his weekly newsletter, arguing that NHI was as much an economic issue as a fight for social justice. “The introduction of NHI will be among the most far-reaching acts of social transformation this country has experienced since 1994. We have enough resources in this country to enable every man, woman and child to receive appropriate, standardised, quality healthcare,” said Ramaphosa.
The 2025 deadline was set in the government’s policy papers on NHI, but critics have said it is an unrealistically ambitious target for full implementation and Treasury officials have previously indicated that a more gradual approach is likely.

These ANC looters stole so much money and they expect us to trust them with healthcare.
carteblanchetv Radio702 Government is after the billions lying in the medical aid schemes fund. That’s the whole idea behind this.
No. I am over taxed already. Which by the way is supposed to see to those in need of such. You're busy looting and want more piggy banks to loot. Create proper decent and fairly paid employment, the tax base gets larger then you can consider this.
Uhm.. UIF, Compenastion Fund, RAF, SAA, etc.. What do these things have in common, Government, major shortfalls, near collapse and constantly being bailed out .. So 'No', rallying for another government piggybank won't happen.
Voetsek.
Absolutely not. Yet. Kindly fix Eskom and stabilise our electricity supply first, bring down govt debt levels, then start thinking about NHI. Govt is incapable of implementing NHI now. Besides, exactly where will the money come from for that
No
SA barely has money to do anything and these fools want to introduce NHI. We aren't rich enough.
This one is always giving warnings Jerrrrr

South Africans must rally behind NHI, Cyril Ramaphosa urgesThe president says the government will implement it ‘in an incremental fashion’ and aim to cover the whole country by 2025 I am tired of government telling me what I must do. They should focus on what they must do - arrest the looters, retrieve the money, fix our schools, police, healthcare and primarily the economy. Until then they can all sit down. Must the 3% of South Africans that pays tax rally, or the 97% that don't ? Mandatory = have no choice bozo .
