The race on Saturday was the penultimate round of the gruelling cycling event, known as the untamed African mountain bike race, which will end with a 67km long stage 7 at the Stellenbosch University campus on Sunday. Overall, a multitude of riders across different categories, including amateurs, took part in the 617km long Cape Epic race, which marked 20th year this year.
