South Africa's Striking Woes: A Nationwide Concern

JOHANNESBURG , SOUTH AFRICA - MAY 02: Ashley Du Preez of Kaizer Chiefs and Terrence Mashego of Mamelodi Sundowns during the DStv Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on May 02, 2024 in Johannesburg , South Africa.

Mnguni's concerns extend beyond Kaizer Chiefs' recent struggles in front of goal, with strikers like Ashley Du Preez and Ranga Chivaviro, who excelled at previous clubs, not managing to impress this season. In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Mnguni emphasized that the lack of goals is a nationwide problem, despite South African teams' ability to play attractive football.

"It's a problem with all South African teams. Each and every team should work on improving goal scoring to make the game more entertaining than it is now. Supporters go to the stadium to see goals and see the players celebrate. That's very important," Mnguni said. To address this issue, Mnguni suggested emulating other countries by employing specialized forward coaches. He cited the example of Benni McCarthy at Manchester United, proposing that similar coaches could help enhance South Africa's striking capabilities at both club and national levels.
