Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) News

Department Of Trade Industry And Competition (DTIC,Ebrahim Patel,Grant Pattison

Savvy Saver managing director Grant Pattison says the new rules are an “obvious step”.

The kick-off date for the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition’s incandescent and compact fluorescent lamp light bulb ban is fast approaching, with the first phase set to launch next week.

He added that banning incandescent and CFL bulbs will reduce shoppers’ confusion when buying lightbulbs, as there will be “essentially one version of everything.” “LEDs, they’re really quite simple. They’re like little chips. There are so many devices with small chips around that it won’t make any big difference,” said Pattison.

The first phase, which kicks in on Friday, 24 May 2024, sets a minimum luminous efficacy of 90 lumens per watt for regular electric lamps.that Eurolux told retailers a sales permit was available to continue stocking low-efficiency lamps until the end of the year. Incandescent bulbs achieved luminous efficacy of between 4lm/W and 12lm/W, while the figure ranged from 47lm/W to 70lm/W for CFLs.
