South Sudan has an estimated 3.5-billion barrels of oil with only 30% of it being explored, Petroleum Minister Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth said at the signing ceremony.

South Africa on Monday signed a deal for the exploration and production of oil in South Sudan, as part of a $1 billion investment in the conflict-torn nation’s struggling oil industry.

South African Oil Minister Jeffrey Radebe described the agreement as “a great deal” for both countries. At its peak, oil production in South Sudan was at 350 000 barrels a day, however production has been crippled, with oil fields severely damaged by almost six years of war. South Sudan’s oil sector is currently dominated by Chinese and Malaysian oil companies, while companies from Russia and Nigeria have also signed deals to explore new oil blocks.

Newsdeck: S. Africa Signs for South Sudan Oil Block After $1 Billion PlanSouth Africa signed a deal on an oil block in South Sudan as part of a $1 billion investment in the country emerging from civil war. Only the politicians nest of vipers will score from this deal. Any future revenue will go to their pension fund holdings offshore!! More graft being set up crimemind3 The naive assumption being that the risk-adjusted return on an investment in a complex project in a normally war-ravaged country is above than the cost of the US dollar debt used to invest in it. The cluelessness of the cANCer is truly staggering.

SA, South Sudan sign six-year oil production sharing agreementMinister of energy Jeff Radebe says the country has committed $1bn to the project How will this benefit me as an energy consumer? Will we see a drop on petrol/diesel price? Or this is one of those deals/pacts that fade away after press conferences? Nobody seems concerned. South Sudan is hardly seen as a stable country and again our money is being invested in another SOE of sorts.

SA, South Sudan sign six-year oil production sharing agreementMinister of energy Jeff Radebe says the country has committed $1bn to the project If SA gleans one cent in revenue, and no one gets killed, I would be astonished. R14bn in SA money blown Most likely a failure because big oil companies did not snatch it up. Project likely to fail and then ANC will say we were misled. Is money paid on receipt of crude or in advance . Methinks in advance with substantial commisions. A basic business mistake ? Is Shanduka or any if the Motsepe/Radebe family businesses involved?
