Hundreds of the world's leading climate scientists say that the planet is headed for at least 2.5C of heating in this century, with disastrous results for humanity. The temperature rise will be far beyond pre-industrial levels and blast way past internationally agreed targets, causing catastrophic consequences for humanity and the planet, according to a recent survey.

” “We are headed for major societal disruption within the next five years.” Despite the depressing findings of this survey, scientists say the fight against climate change needs to continue as "every fraction of a degree avoided would reduce human suffering". It seems to now be about damage control instead of avoidance. Since 2018, every available lead author or review editor of IPCC reports was contacted for the poll by The Guardian. Out of 843 responses, 380 were nearly half.
