This week MoneywebNOW looked at local banks' performance, the rise of private credit and more.

I chatted with Sasria CEO Mpumi Tyikwe about the risks of violence leading up to the election. We also touched on the July 2021 riots and how they were made worse by a delayed response from the security cluster, something he does not expect during an election year.The big local banks have all released results, and I spoke with Francois Prinsloo from PwC about the trends. Overall, the banks are strong even as impairments rise.

Cost-to-income is, however, still coming down even as inflation remains elevated.Master Drilling delivered good results despite tough conditions, and I spoke with CFO Andre van Deventer. They’re focusing on Africa and have gold as a main commodity, which helps as the metal trades at record highs.Private credit is booming, and I spoke with Harris Gorre from GrovePoint Investment about the sector.
