Resources spent on maintaining old power stations are wasted and could make a real difference if redirected to other plants an industry expert says.

As South Africans brace for another year that's likely to be characterised by load shedding, one expert says the solution to the country's severe power supply problems is not in building new generation capacity, but by simply shutting old power stations down.
