Everyone is working tirelessly in an extensive search for 11 fishermen who went missing at sea after their commercial fishing trawler sank 34 nautical miles off the coast of Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Friday.The South African Maritime Safety Authority’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre reported receiving a distress call about the fishing vessel FV Lepanto, which was reportedly sinking quickly west of Slangkop Lighthouse, around 3:34pm on Friday.
Ramatjie added that the FV Armana successfully rescued nine crew members, but 11 others remain unaccounted for.The MRCC Cape Town is coordinating the search and rescue operation.Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, expressed her shock and sadness over the tragedy.
