The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be performing scheduled maintenance in specific areas, resulting in temporary water supply disruptions. This essential maintenance aims to improve the water supply infrastructure for the benefit of customers.
As part of the installation process for pressure management technology, zero-pressure testing and step-testing will be conducted to identify any unmapped inflows before installing smart pressure-reducing valves . During these tests, some residents may experience low water pressure or no water. The specific areas affected cannot be predicted in advance.
Conditional testing ensures that the pressure-reducing valves in the water supply network operate effectively, managing pressures to extend pipeline lifespan and reduce water wastage from pipe bursts. While pressure fluctuations may occur, efforts will be made to minimise them. This work is part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy to reduce the risk of pipe bursts and water wastage.Maintenance on the pressure-reducing valve on the main water supply pipeline will take place from 9am until 4pm on Monday, 20 May 2024. This may disrupt the water supply if there are issues with the bypass. Residents are advised to store enough water as a precaution.
