The South African Policing Union (SAPU) has announced a decision to withdraw its affiliation with the South African Federation of Trade Union (SAFTU).

The South African Policing Union has announced a decision to withdraw its affiliation with theSAPU is the second biggest policing union in the country and was one of the founding members of SAFTU five years ago. It says that under SAFTU, the union’s dream of a new, independent, militant and campaigning federation could not be realised as the organisation failed to grow in provinces and to champion workers’ issues.

The police union also says it is withdrawing the deployment of Thabo Matsose as the newly elected first Deputy President of SAFTU. SAPU was founded in 1993 as an independent union with around 60 000 members but joined forces to form SAFTU in 2017. The union is currently holding its congress in Polokwane and says it will return to being independent, to better represent its members.

“The delegates of the congress of SAPU have decided that we must part ways with SAFTU as a federation. We are taking stock. We had been independent for 30 years and the reason why we joined SAFTU was to grow the union and federation and so far, none is achieved. The federation has not grown and there is no movement, it has not added value to SAPU hence we decided to part ways. Provincial SAFTU offices have not been formed.

Cyril Ramaphosa: South African president faces threat of impeachment over 'Farmgate'A panel in South Africa has found that President Cyril Ramaphosa abused his position. He's been accused of covering up a $4m theft from his farm in 2020 as well as kidnapping and bribing burglars into silence. Mr Ramaphosa has denied any wrongdoing. ➡️ Ok South Africa is very corrupt, the former president built himself property worth 200 million with public funds. Ramaphosa's mafia conduct is not surprising. Progress comes from doing things differently. The World cannot continue to look the other way while Africa's leaders and elites continue to rape Africans!
