SAPS Motherwell arrested a suspect and recovered a hijacked LDV shortly after they received information about the hijacking on Saturday, 23 March 2024.

At approximately 04:45, SAPS Motherwell members were patrolling when they received information of a white Isuzu LDV that was hijacked in Mbanga Street, Soweto on Sea. It is alleged that the complainant was on his way to work when he was hijacked by two armed men. The vehicle was spotted in Nqabara Street, NU9, Motherwell and as the suspects attempted to speed off, the vehicle stalled. The driver jumped out and fled on foot.

The suspect, aged 31 years old, was arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of dangerous weapon and will appear in the Motherwell magistrate court on Monday 25 March 2024. In another unrelated hijacking that was report on Saturday, 23 March 2024 at approximately 00:45, the complainant was sitting in his vehicle, a lime green VW Jetta, with a friend in Catherine Road, Salsoneville in Bethelsdorp when three unknown suspects approached them, pointed them with a firearm and instructed them to get out of the vehicle. Thereafter the suspects got into the vehicle and drove off. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the Chatty area.
