Police Minister Bheki Cele has given the green light for the members of the SA National Defence Force to join the police patrols in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng amid ongoing acts of violence and vandalism

.

City Press has learnt that the call was made on Monday following more overnight protests and looting of stores. “The minister has just approved the documents allowing soldiers to join the police in their patrols. The documents we signed today [Monday] and the announcement is expected to be made later today or tomorrow,” said a security cluster source privy to the details.

The deployment comes as violent protests escalate allegedly by the supporters of former president Jacob Zuma who are demanding his release from prison after he was incarcerated last week. KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng have been the hardest hit by the protests with businesses looted and a mall set on fire. Unconfirmed reports said six people have been killed since the protests started four days ago.SA National Defence Force Media Statement | Monday, 12 July 2021 | The SA National Defence Force to deploy soldiers in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces to assist Law Enforcement Agencies.

If they could use the police that took care of the surfers, there would be no looting . Those travel agents were taught a lesson too . But hey, when people burn and loot, those police are MIA with their mace spray

As if he had a choice

Too little too late.. The situation was brewing a while ago..BhekiCeleMustGo

Apartheid government

This ppl started a war so I strongly believe they deserve their match which is SANDF. They behave as if we are in Iraq or something like otherwise.... they are fucking up our business by destroying the roots of our country's economy

Do we still have police minister in this country?

Looting nationally is dragging this country in the wrong direction. We need to see more action from lawenforcement agencies to bring about publicorder. More funds will now be wasted in rebuilding what is being damaged in this high unemployment stricken country +pandemic

Good

Too little, too late.

After everything has been destroyed, in Soweto malls have been looted and vandalised, no where to buy bread tomorrow morning in midst of a pandemic. Cyril is a suicide bomber. During apartheid the ANC used to target government institutions and soft targets but now they bomb us al

Took him long enough before his brain could register that, that he was supposed to have done that awhile ago now everything is a mess just like his judgment

They will move over to Mpumalanga & Western Cape. They must ask SADC to assist.

Sizowadubula ngerozi yeAK47

Delayed as usual.

About time. So much damage has taken place.

Too late

I thought there is no war 😏Anyway, its about time

Cele has failed

lavitosoul We have been waiting for this

It's amazing how fast you reported about the military but you took your own sweet time to report about the protest you guys are just part and parcel of this unrest

People have been calling for soldiers. But now they say soldiers are not wanted because they are not trained for protests. Actually what do people want?

So will Cele and his PoliceSecretar3 now admit they lied when they said SAPoliceService can protect us? ParliamentofRSA ANCParliament Our_DA MYANC

Ramaphosa has deployed the army, *in peace time, *against citizens, *twice in a period of +/-13 months. Killing people in their yards as they previously did will be a walk in the park compared to the coming bloodbath. I have no words about your 'president'. No words.

To do what? Kill hungry people?

Too late
