SA must ‘walk the talk’ on women leadership

The South African Women in Leadership Census found that marginal progress had been made since the last survey in 2017, and stated that “there is still a great need for a shift in mind-set” if faster progress is to be made. Photo: ReutersThe South African Women in Leadership Census found that marginal progress had been made since the last survey in 2017, and stated that “there is still a great need for a shift in mind-set” if faster progress is to be made.

The study found that, of the 3 237 directorships at JSE-listed entities, only 870 were occupied by women. Although this is significant progress compared with the 5.9% representation in 2004, which is when the BWA started conducting the census, the 26% that today’s numbers translate into still “demonstrates women are a clear minority”.Subscribe to News24 for just R75 per month to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
