MarikanaMassacre “Unfortunately, police deviated from their plan and created a situation where they decided to act - and bloodshed was inevitable.”

“The country deserves to know the truth,” said retired Judge Ian Farlam, who was the commission chair for the inquisition into the events at Lonmin mine on August 16 2012, when 34 miners were gunned down by police while striking for better accommodation and wages.

“The public deserves to know exactly what they have done in relation to implementation, what they haven't done, and why they haven't done it as a matter of public importance. The government said it had accepted our recommendations, and it seems like they haven't done any of them. “Unfortunately, police deviated from their plan and created a situation where they decided to act - and bloodshed was inevitable.”
