Goods from Rwanda can now access the Gabon, Ghana, Togo, Botswana, and South African markets duty-free, while at the same time, service providers from Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, and Lesotho can issue their services in Rwanda, without barriers to market access or national treatment.

The development was announced on Wednesday, August 16 by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Jean-Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, during the official opening of the Golden Business Forum in Kigali.

Minister Ngabitsinze said the AfCFTA is not just another trading bloc. It is a wish that has come to pass and a concept that was once envisioned and is now a reality. "The AfCFTA is meant to create a single continental market for goods and services, with free movement of businesspersons and investments, and thus pave the way for accelerating the establishment of the Continental Customs Union."

This time he will be transferred to Arusha, Tanzania from where his trial will commence, writes Hudson Kuteesa for New Times. This latest development brought at the request of the United National International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, caught his legal team unawares, News24 reports. Antony Blinken Makes Call to Ease Rwanda, DR Congo TensionsTensions on the Rwanda, DR Congo border have been simmering, after DR Congo's President Felix Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of supporting militia wanting to destabilise his country. While the accusations have been denied by Rwanda's President Paul Kagame, the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has again had a telephone conversation with Kagame on Tuesday August 15, 2023, to discuss the situation, Moise Bahati writes for New Times. The top US diplomat added, "I shared my hope for a diplomatic solution to the tensions and for each side to take measures to de-escalate the situation." In August 2022, Blinken warned that supporting and cooperating with armed groups would endanger local communities and threaten central Africa's stability. Tension between both countries grew after the resumption of fighting between the DRC army and the M23 movement in March 202. The DRC authorities accused neighbouring Rwanda of fueling the conflict in the volatile region.
