Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says his perceived failure at Orlando Pirates has prepared him for his new role. SLSiya Read more:

Last month Mokwena was appointed Downs’ new head coach in the wake of some unsatisfactory results which saw Steve Komphela and Manqoba Mngqithi assume the duties of first team coach and senior coach, respectively.

Mokwena’s record at the helm of the Buccaneers wasn’t as impressive as he would have liked, having managed only four wins, five draws and five defeats in his 14 matches in charge. “One of the most important characteristics I have had to develop is emotional intelligence. Having emotional intelligence has allowed me to see beyond myself which is very important in football. Self-absorption is detrimental because it makes one prone to personalizing everything and everything feels like an attack. Once you can focus on things outside of yourself, you can understand that everything is working for your own good.
