Ronaldo unused as Portugal fall to Croatia

It was the perfect start on eight minutes for the visiting team when star player Luka Modric fired into the bottom corner from the penalty spot after Mateo Kovacic drew a foul from Vitinha. Croatia fashioned more chances five minutes before halftime and saw Kramaric’s side-foot effort drew a point-blank save from Diogo Costa, with the host pretty on the ropes.

However, the Vatreni regained advantage as Ante Budimir headed in from close-range as the initial effort from Mario Pasalic had come back off the woodwork.
