Probe into R227m tender awarded to an engineering company with Klusener family links

A KwaZulu-Natal civil engineering company that received more than R200m worth of contracts from the transport department is under investigation by the Hawks for “serious irregularities and fraudulent documentations”.

The Hawks investigation follows concerns raised by the auditor-general about service providers that were paid by the department in the 2015/16 financial year for work related to the construction, rehabilitation and/or maintenance of roads and infrastructure. One of these service providers is a civil engineering company that allegedly falsified invoices and submitted them to the KZN transport department, which in return authorised payments...A subscription gives you full digital access to all Times Select content.
