A member of the public alerted SPCA to the seal that was in distress at the Sea Point Promenade on Sunday.

that was in distress at the Sea Point Promenade in Cape Town, on Sunday.

The member of the public reported that the seal had material entangled around his flippers, neck and body and was very weak. “Shortly after the report our inspectors arrived and found an exhausted seal that was evidently in distress. Our inspectors safely rescued the seal and removed the entanglement that covered most of the seal’s body,” said SPCA.

Due to its weakness and dehydration, the seal was taken to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Wildlife Facility in Grassy Park. “The seal was assessed by our veterinary team and was kept under observation for three days. During this time our team had to administer fluids to the seal and assist with feeding.”The animal welfare organisation stated that the seal was released today when he regained his strength and was strong enough to brave the ocean once more.
