Reader letter: Um, elephant behind you!

In 2018, we visited Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe and spent 10 days in one of the satellite camps on the Zambezi River.

There were always elephants in and around the camp, and we got to know the various individuals. This younger female had an adventurous calf of about four months old, and she’d get terribly upset if she got separated from him. Each time he wandered off, she’d mock charge us until she got closer to him, then all would be fine again.

My friend Jaco Jordaan was painting in the camp and was unaware of the ellie behind him. I didn’t tell him what was happening at the time – it would have been dangerous if he’d moved… – include your name, surname and where you live. Please also include a photo if you have one .
