President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the judgment by the Johannesburg high court last week where he was being sued by mineworkers who worked for Lonmin during the Marikana massacre in 2012.

The workers asked the court to find that Ramaphosa and Lonmin, which has since been acquired by Sibanye-Stillwater, were liable for the actions of the police who shot dead 34 workers near the Nkaneng informal settlement in Marikana near Rustenburg on August 16 2012 during a violent wildcat strike.

Second, the court rejected the plaintiffs' argument that certain email communications from Ramaphosa called for the murder of striking workers. Third, the high court agreed with Ramaphosa that there was no factual basis pleaded for the allegation that collusion between him, government and the senior police officers would have led to deaths of workers.

In the judgment the court said the allegations pleaded did not show Ramaphosa owed the plaintiffs legal duties and he therefore could not in law incur liability to the plaintiffsin his capacity as director of Lonmin or in pursuit of his personal interests and those of Lonmin.

PhalaPhalaGate PhalaPhalaGateFarm PhalaPhalaFarmGate

Has he?

The death of 34 mineworkers who were killed by these words,'concomitant action', is not welcomed. Breadwinners were killed and families ruined. May their spirit continue to fight for justice.

The more reason he must step aside

Another synical PR trick (foefie) by this PR-driven President. When is CyrilRamaphosa going to do the right thing and go to Marikana and face the widows of the mine workers who died because of his reckless call for ConcomitantAction? Aikona, we're tired of this heartless man!

You are lying, this is not news reporting but you have copied whay Cyril wrote on his twitter timeline and try to deceive the readers that he 'welcomes' and that he wasn't found liable, where are the court papers why don't you verify before taking his side? Fake SAEditorsForum !

I'm here for comments by those who didn't read the judgment. As they make fool of themselves..
