Ramaphosa et al court unemployed youth as SA commemorates Youth Day

Through these online-based initiatives, government seeks to create funding opportunities and jobs for young people through connecting them with potential employees and funders.

This led to him announcing the presidential employment stimulus, which was launched last October. The president lauded the programme for having placed 320 000 young people in the education sector as education and general assistants employed in 24 000 public schools across the country since its tabling.

“At least 60% of them are young people” who have managed to “use these vouchers to get inputs such as feed, seeds, fertilisers and other goods they need to produce food”. He announced that government had partnered with the Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator and other organisations to create the SA Youth site, where young people can register to make use of these opportunities.

He also announced that government was launching mPowa, “a platform in the SA Youth network developed by [mobile applications laboratory] mLab in partnership with the department of science and innovation” with the aim to “provide young work seekers and entrepreneurs with information about services and support that is available in their area”.
