President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral Category 2 in honour of Joseph Shabalala, the late founder of choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

. Shabalala (78) passed away on February 11 following an extended illness. The Special Official Funeral Category 2 entails ceremonial elements provided by the South African Police Service. The funeral will take place on Saturday February 22, 2020. Ramaphosa has ordered that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the country until the evening of 22 February 2020. Regulations require that no other flags should be displayed when the National Flag is flown at half-mast. Ramaphosa has reiterated his sincerest condolences to the Shabalala family, members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and members of the arts and culture fraternities in South Africa and globally with whom Ladysmith Black Mambazo has collaborated for the better part of six decades. In 2008, this world-renowned and widely awarded choral group received the National Order of Ikhamanga for putting South African cultural life on the world map through contributing to the field of South African indigenous music. It's very unfortunate that the late Mr Shabalala was part of the group which defied liberation struggle and acted at variance with cultural boycott aimed at bringing down the apartheid regime. Nonetheless rest in peace Sir. He's doing what is good at😂 Can those who can bury families do so ..Ramaophosa and government officials can be part of funeral by giving speeches and support but not use money tax payers money as we still have electricity bills to pay..etc RIPJosephShabalala

Eish.millions spent on someone who can bury himself As usual Amazulu are superior in this country. He could have done the same with boxing legend Peter Terror Mathebula. Well deserved! Let's hope his music will enjoy rotation with all SABC radio and TV stations. ArtsCultureSA NathiMthethwaSA PresidencyZA CyrilRamaphosa GautengSACR GautengProvince David_Makhura

You would swear this is the only task the president of the state has on their job description 🤣🤣🤣 The state funeral cost is exorbitant to say the least. Why was Johnny Clegg not afforded the same dignity. Let's treat all people equally. CyrilRamaphosa The state is struggling if you feel so generous why don't you offer to pay for his funeral instead of forcing us to do it.

He is excelling when it comes to state funerals as if he's using his billions That’s the only thing Cyril delivers, state funerals. He doesn’t make a mistake but come to proper service deliveries, dololo
