The former Nelson Mandela Bay Ward 2 councillor has been trending on social media after a video he made almost two decades ago resurfaced online.

In the video Gouws rants about reverse apartheid, alleging white South Africans are being discriminated against.

Almost 15,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Parliament to revoke the membership of recently sworn-in Democratic Alliance member Gouws. "The white people in this country are going through a reverse apartheid. Say whatever the f*#k you want, back in the day black people were beaten, and black people were killed - what has changed? Today white people are beaten, white people are killed, white people are discriminated against."he had addressed his views contained in the video in the past - most recently in 2020.

"This has appeared and disappeared for the last six or seven years and this is about the fourth time now that I’ve spoken about this video. So could you maybe send me WhatsApp questions and I can give you my responses that I have done over the last couple of years."The DA said it's aware of the petition but could not provide an immediate response.
