Gauteng’s blistering summer is proving to be enemy No 1 in efforts to capture Sheba the tigress at Walkers Fruit Farm, south of Johannesburg. However, there are positive signs that her capture looms.

The area of her movements is understood to be no more than an 800m² radius. The dense bush and hilly terrain provide Sheba with the cover she needs to hide during the day.

“Possession or keeping permits and permits to sell and purchase any wild animal are required in the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State, as well as for the import, export and transport of the animals,” it said. Midvaal mayor Peter Teixeira said his municipality would relook at the bylaws around keeping exotic animals. “We would need to look at strengthening the bylaws to ensure we are not caught off guard and to prevent something like this happening again,” he said.

Sheba the escaped tiger reopens debate on keeping wild animals as petsThe female tiger, named Sheba, escaped from a property in the Walkerville area at the weekend. A tiger in Africa, for what? Time to ban big cats as pets. Wild animals should be allowed to roam free in the wild, not someones backyard. Hope this poor tiger is not found and hope it finds peace somewhere. Unfortunately it won't find a mate ad it will resort to killing livestock to stay alive and then sadly he will meet his fate. Tiger as a pet would rock. If you want to apply the same logic to everything. Dogs all should be banned.
