Presidency clarifies future of Eskom, Transnet

Ramokgopa is a former diplomat and was adviser to Ramaphosa on foreign affairs before being appointed head of DPME in January last year.

Minister in the Presidency Maropene Ramokgopa will oversee the establishment of a state holding company for state-owned enterprises and the companies previously supervised by the Department of Public Enterprises will be shifted to their policy departments. This means that the shareholder representative of Eskom will now be Minister of Energy and Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and the Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy will take charge of Transnet.

This contradicts what News 24 previously reported, quoting Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya, that Eskom and Transnet would be shifted to the Presidency. Magwenya said on Tuesday that his statement was the result of confusion and that the companies would go to their policy departments.
