Former Lamontville Golden Arrows player Manqoba Mkhize's first-ever tournament in Durban turned into a battle for a youngster, as DStv Premiership clubs chased down one of the top performers.
The Khabba Cup was hosted in Umlazi and Lamontville for the first time, which saw 32 teams battling out for a spot in the finals. One of the top players, Xolisani Mbuthumo, a 19-year-old, became hot topic after Golden Arrows, Richards Bay FC and other scouts were battling for his signature. During the last games of the tournament, Mbuthomo from Harding in the South of KZN was approached by both teams and other scouts. According to those close to the star, Orlando Pirates were informed about the player for a possible move to the club's Diski Challenge side.
Insiders have revealed that three PSL clubs were fighting to acquire the player for the new season, and Richards Bay FC are believed to have secured the services of the star. It is understood that the Natal Rich Boys agreed terms with the player, who looks set to join the side when the club returns for pre-season ahead of the new campaign.
