Premier League Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester United Date: Venue: Villa Park Man United were without Cristiano Ronaldo due to a hip injury, as the Red Devils made three enforced changes, with Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay suspended while Marcus Rashford had a dead leg and Phillippe Coutinho was was on the bench for Villa after a loan move from Barcelona.Manchester City's Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (2nd right) is mobbed by teammates after scoring the opening goal during the English Premier League football match against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, north west England, on Saturday.Man City recalled Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and John Stones from the side that beat Arsenal, while the Blues made rotated the side that edged Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup Cup, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and N'Golo Kante brought back.Venue: Etihad Pep Guardiola re-called John Stones, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish while the likes of Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and Gabriel Jesus were left on the bench.

Ralf Rangnick's charges had a perfect start after getting the opener in the sixth minute thanks to a howler by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who fumbled a tame shot from Bruno Fernandes through his legs. United were taking the game by the scruff of the neck but Martinez redeemed himself with two big saves inside the first half-an-hour to deny Mason Greenwood on two separate occasions. A game of few chances was brought to life by the Belgian 20 minutes from time as he curled home the only goal from outside the box to seal a 12th consecutive league win for the champions. Steven Gerrard's men were getting into the game after that, with new signing Lucas Digne impressing on the left flank, as he delivered a good cross that was flicked at the near post by Emiliano Buendia but he was denied by goalkeeper David de Gea and just before the half-time break Digne fired a half-volley that was smothered by De Gea. However, Chelsea almost got off to a dream start early in the second stanza after Lukaku went through on goal from Kovacic's defence-splitting pass but his strike was saved by Ederson. The game was opening up from end to end in the opening exchanges of the second stanza, with Martinez and De Gea pulling massive saves. The Blues remain second but have won just one of their last six league games. Fernandes eventually doubled the lead for Rangnick's men in the 67th minute with a clinical strike into the roof of the net after Fred won possession high up the pitch and setup the Portuguese. The deadlock would eventually arrive in the 70th minute and it came via former Chelsea player Kevin de Bruyne, who found the back of the net with a stunning effort from just outside the box.

Gerrard eventually brought on Coutinho for his debut just after that in place of Morgan Sanson for fresh legs in midfield and Jacob Ramsey pulled a goal back 13 minutes before time with a stunning strike into the top corner after a deflected pass from the Brazilian. City dominated possession but struggled to open up a makeshift Chelsea defence featuring second-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Malang Sarr on just his second Premier League appearance. City's Foden had a chance to seal the deal seven minutes before time after a cut-back Raheem Sterling but he curled his effort over the bar, however, Guardiola's men held on to steer 13 points clear of second-placed Chelsea at the top of the log and clinched a 12th straight win. Coutinho found the equaliser for Villa in the last eight minutes with a simple close-range finish after Ramsey went through on goal and played a cut-back to the Brazilian. The game was opening up in the dying minutes, with both sides searching for the winner but neither could get clear chances, as they shared the spoils in the end. Mateo Kovacic’s pass deflected off De Bruyne into the path of Jack Grealish, but the most expensive English player of all-time missed the chance to mark his biggest moment yet as a City player as his shot was turned behind by Arrizabalaga.
