Fear spread through poor rural communities across South Africa when VBS, a regional bank that catered to poorer customers, collapsed.

It came as Muambadzi's son was about to get married, and university fees were due for another child.

"The ladies started looking at me suspiciously thinking I had stolen the money," she said of her savings club, known as a stokvel, into which members contribute an agreed amount each month.VBS was founded in 1982 at the height of apartheid in the Venda homeland, an area of modern-day Limpopo province reserved by white authorities for black communities.

Retired university lecturer and minority shareholder professor Elwani Khuba said she saved at the bank because it promised to guarantee her future. Now,"I'm still waiting to get my money and the value of my shares."Khuba had hoped"to give this legacy to my children and also to my grandchildren.

What is the progress of the VBS investigation? Or has that been expediently suspended until after the Election?

R u recycling news lyk dstv movies?

What is very concerning the VBS looters are now celebrated as heroes..twisted brains of some dunder heads

What pain me worse is that S.A media shifted all the blame on EFF even thou the poor EFF is not there in any report of VBS wrong doings. Even in the main report of Terry Motau there is no EFF but you lied to the country about EFF being involved. U hv turned into fake news media

In the case of African Bank, they established Good and Bad bank... In this case all was killed.

What I find fascinating is that the EFF, the party of the poor, have not accused, harassed or slapped anyone regarding this theft from the poor at VBS. In fact, the only people they have attacked is the SARB who had the misfortune of bringing the matter to the public domain.

Proudly EFF 👍🏻 “For the poor people”

FACT CHECK - ANALYSIS: South African industry falsely blames job losses on sugar taxEven before the sugar tax was introduced, key stakeholders in the sugar industry were arguing that it would cause massive job losses. Now, less than a year after its implementation, there are calls for a moratorium on the tax.The argument is that the tax is directly responsible for the loss of anything from 1,000 and up to 10,000 jobs. In reality, there is no firm evidence to support that claim – and the industry faces much greater challenges. Yeah bt it was about tym they implement that law. Food companies r killing us with so much sugar in food! They don't even disclose true information of their products so we can't even choose 2 buy healthy groceries! 20 years is a very short time to have half the population obese They shud also control the amount of chemicals we consume nd have some banned. What is happening in SA is crime against humanity
