This week on POLOTIKI, Eskom is still under the spotlight as South Africa goes dark.

And election season is in full swing with political parties on Wednesday signing the code of conduct at the Electoral Commission of South Africa .

Pledges, delayed trains and torn posters have made headlines as we count down to the 2019 national elections. A record-breaking 48 political parties will be contesting the elections, nineteen more than the previous poll. The National Assembly rose for the last time during the fifth Parliament's term and Speaker Baleka Mbete delivered a farewell address.

Will we get better MPs in the new Parliament? News24 associate editor for in-depth news Pieter du Toit doesn't think so after looking at the IEC candidates list.And finally, the ANC head of elections and former minister of sports and recreation Fikile Mbalula testified before the commission of inquiry into state capture in Johannesburg.
