The councillor is in hospital, while police say that petrol bombs alone don’t necessarily explain the extent of the damage.

Members of the South African Police Service’s explosives unit responded to reports of an incident of arson alleged to have taken place between 4am and 5am, Captain Kay Makhubele said. The councillor was rushed to hospital with extensive burn wounds to his upper body. Gauteng police management condemned the incident and called on the community to come forward with information that could assist with the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
