As Kaizer Chiefs prepare for a new season with fresh faces in the squad, former defender Mokete Tsotetsi has given his thoughts on who is capable of being named captain for the upcoming campaign.
The departures of Bernard Parker, Daniel Cardoso and Ramahlwe Mphahlele - three players who have worn the captain's armband before, means Zwane has to find new leaders who are capable of leading the team.Itumeleng Khune has captained the club on numerous occasions, but it appears he will not spend as much time on the pitch as he used to, so a new captain may have to be picked by Zwane, who is no stranger to wearing the armband, having done so while he was an Amakhosi player in the past.
"If Mathoho starts the season with Chiefs, I think he would be one of the candidates. I also look at someone like Keagan Dolly. He is a candidate. He has the experience and the leadership qualities," Tsotetsti tells the Siya crew.Chiefs have had goalkeepers as captains before, with the likes of Khune, Brian Baloyi and Rowen Fernandez wearing the armband. Tsotetsi feels Brandon Petersen would also be a good captain for the Soweto giants.
"We don't know who will be the first choice between Bvuma and Petersen. Bvuma is not a leader. He is a good goalkeeper, but I don't think he has those qualities of a captain. I think Petersen would be a good leader. Another player I think can be a good leader is Njabulo Ngcobo. Yes, he slipped up , but I do feel he has those qualities. But I don't think they should put him under too much pressure while he still settles in at Chiefs.
I'm worried, are Chiefs going to sign genuine strikers, is this club going to play without renown strikers, I'm very concerned?
