The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has clamped down on the maiming of pit bulls. It acted on information following a public appeal earlier this week via social media. | Lisaleesolomon1

According to the SPCA, a sting operation in Lotus River, Cape Town, led it to a property where the dogs were kept.

"Inspectors went into the house to search for evidence of paraphernalia associated with ear cropping," added Abraham.While searching the property, officials found scheduled 5 drugs, as well as a toolbox containing suture material, medical scissors and other equipment generally used for cropping ears.

"The situation became volatile once inspectors made the discovery. Police were called in to contain the escalating situation," said Abraham.
