A South African buyer is making international headlines after buying the “most expensive property” in the upper east side of Manhattan, New York (NYC).

“SOLD and CLOSED for $57M today at 36 East 68th, the most expensive price per foot ever achieved for a townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. At 22 feet wide and 9,200 Square Feet, this historic townhouse is now also a historic sale,” wrote Serhant.reported that the “historic sale” was concluded after the buyer viewed the mansion over FaceTime in an off-market deal that took a year to complete.

According to a non-profit organisation, Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts the apartment was built in 1879 and redesigned in 1932.
